It’s been a long time coming but I finally finished my boudoir FAQ page!! Not only has it taken a long time to round up and answer the most common questions I get but I also taught myself how to make it all pretty with the expanding answers!! Thank you Google! Next step, figuring out why my social media icon’s aren’t working. The links work but the pictures to tell you which one it is doesn’t, see the little black circles over there on the side bar? Yeah… those damn things.
Well anyway, here ya go! The answers to all the questions you might think to ask!
Wikipedia says; A boudoir (/ˈbuːd.wɑːr/; French: [bu.dwaʁ]) is a lady’s private bedroom, sitting room or dressing room. The term derives from the French verb bouder, meaning “to sulk” or boudeur, meaning “sulky”.
Boudoir photography is a lot of things; it really depends on who you ask. Some photographers define boudoir photography as having to take place in the bedroom, some don’t. I’m with those who don’t. I consider boudoir to be a photo shoot in which the subject is wearing lingerie (usually but not always!) or in the nude for the purpose of celebrating and highlighting a woman’s sexuality, sensuality, and inner beauty.
I tend to incorporate a lot of beauty/glamour posing into my boudoir shoots; my style is a mix of both. A little beauty, a little boudoir. If I had to give a name to my style I think it would be Beauty Boudoir… or something like that- if you think of a better name let me know!
And if you are interested in the beauty side but not the boudoir side, let me know! We can do that. I am not just a boudoir photographer; I’m a photographer for women, whatever that looks like to you.
We will have a Reveal Session about two weeks after your shoot, this is when I’ll reveal your amazeballs photos to you (my goal is to see little baby tears in eyes of yours when you see them! Mean, right?) and you can choose, order, and pay for your photographs. And ya know what? If you don’t love them, you aren’t required to buy them. Safety net.
If you decide that you’d like to do your photo shoot somewhere else like a hotel, B&B, outside, or your home, just be aware that it will be your responsibility to pay the fee’s for the location (if there are any fee’s)
If you’d like to do your shoot at a hotel or other location that costs money then it is your responsibility to pay for the location fees. Same thing goes if there is a permit or entrance fees required for the location you’d like to use.
If you are having trouble deciding where to do your shoot then let me know and I can help you pick a location that will knock your socks off!
If you really don’t want to use the artist I am providing then you can choose to have your hair and makeup done elsewhere, however keep in mind that the retainer fee will remain the same.
Professional hair and makeup is so important to make your shoot the best that it can be, please don’t do your own makeup, even if you are a makeup artist. 🙂 The HMUA’s (hair & makeup artists) that I hire for your photo shoot have years of experience doing makeup for photo shoots. They know what kind of makeup looks best on film and they know how to highlight your best features. I only hire HMUA’s that I trust and have tested out myself. Plus, you deserve to relax while someone else pampers you.
You can wear anything you want! Here are some ideas:
A pretty sundress/cocktail dress/formal dress Your favorite pair of jeans A white tank top with a sexy bra underneath Boxer shorts and a lacy bra Lacy boy shorts and a dray tee
Your options are endless. The most important thing is that your outfits fit you right and you feel comfortable in them. If you are having a hard time coming up with your outfit choices let me know and I can help you pick something perfect for you. I’ll also give you some additional ideas in the planning PDF that I’ll send you after you book your shoot.
After your photo shoot you’ll go home looking all fabulous with your ah.maz.ing hair and makeup (better plan a date night or girls night out for that evening!) and I’ll go home looking all shitty with my hair thrown up and sweat dripping down my boobs. And while you’re out having fun (or vegging out on the couch because you’re already sore) I’ll be downloading your photographs and jumping right into the retouching.
About two weeks later we’ll have your Reveal Session (that we scheduled either before your shoot or the day of) where I will attempt to make you cry by presenting to you the best damn photographs you’ve ever seen of yourself. Then, after the emotional part is done we’ll dive right on in to picking your favorites and creating your dream album and your custom pieces of art – don’t worry, I will help you every step of the way. Then before you leave you’ll pay for your order, give me a hug, and then I’ll send you on your way. Once your order shows up on my door step I’ll wrap it up all pretty and then deliver it to you. If you live really far away then I might mail it but my preferred method of delivery is by hand.
So, all in all, you’ll have your album and other items in hand about 4 weeks after your photo shoot. I know that in today’s age of instant gratification that might seem like a long time, but it’s not, and I promise it’ll be worth it.
Yes, of course. My general rule of thumb is that if it isn’t permanent I’ll remove it, but if it is permanent then it stays… except for stretch marks, I retouch those unless you ask me not to. But I do know that there are some scars or marks that you just might not want to see, so during your get-to-know-you questionnaire you’ll be asked if there is anything you’d like me to remove from your photos.
I do not do extensive editing such as heavy liquefying, body reshaping, braces removal, composite shots/head swaps, etc. unless requested. Any requests for additional retouching will be considered -but not guaranteed- and will incur an additional fee starting at $20/photo.
A Signature Album! I adore albums, like the kind of adore where you carry her (yes, it’s a her) around the house with you because you can’t bear to have her sitting all lonely on the bookshelf somewhere, the kind of adore that makes you want to snuggle her all night long- forget that silly man that you actually bought her for. ♥ You can just feel the quality the second you pick it up. It has weight, it’s sturdy, it smells like yummy leather goodness, and of course it holds all of your beautiful photographs. Albums are great because they last forever, never go out of style, you don’t have a special piece of technology to look at its pages (do you even still own a cd drive?? If you’re an Apple fan you might not!), and you can fit lots and lots of photographs inside those beautiful, luscious covers. Don’t worry, I have some for you to drool over during your Reveal Session.
You could also go with a canvas or fine art print for high-impact wall art. Can’t you just picture the abstract black and white canvas of you in your master bedroom??
Or how about an iconic wall calendar or a sexy vivid metal for the hubby to hang in his garage?
Yeah, there are plenty of options, trust me. 🙂
No, not unless you give me permission to do so.
It’s very important to me that you feel comfortable with what I do with your photographs, so if you’d prefer that I don’t post them, then I won’t.
But as you know, it is very helpful for other women, like you, who are searching for a boudoir photographer to see their recent work. I think that’s the hardest thing about being a boudoir photographer, not being able to show off my awesome clients. Keep in mind that you can also decide to let me show only specific photos, or you can let me use your photos in print only, as samples (they never leave my side). But if you love your photographs and grant me a full model release then I can guarantee I’ll be doing a happy dance after you leave!!
Weddings, seniors, families and other photo shoots do require a model release.
So, what do you think? Did I miss any of your pressing questions? If I did, leave me a comment with the question and I’ll answer it and add it to the list!!
No post is complete without a photograph, right?! Here’s one from a recent outdoor boudoir shoot. Stay tuned for the blog post featuring this beauty!
